LANSING, Mich. The fight over hydraulic fracturing is coming to Michigan, along with a significant environmental test for the Great Lakes state's Republican governor.
House Democrats plan to discuss a bill Wednesday that would further regulate what is known as "fracking," a method of extracting natural gas from underground. The House's natural gas subcommittee released a report Tuesday encouraging more natural gas production, arguing it can provide energy independence and high-wage jobs.

The US justice department has filed the first criminal charges linked to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
A former BP engineer was arrested on charges of intentionally destroying evidence.
Kurt Mix of Katy, Texas, faces two counts of obstruction of justice.
He is accused of trying to delete text messages between himself and a supervisor, in October 2010, containing details about how attempts to cap the leaking well were going.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — A Grain Processing Corp. plant in Muscatine, Iowa that makes corn-based products emits so much pollution that it has damaged homes, cars and property across the city, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.
The lawsuit, filed by 11 residents, alleges the Grain Processing plant spews harmful chemicals and particulate matter for miles as the wind blows, routinely blanketing homes and cars with soot and causing metals in everything from swing sets to siding and air conditioning systems to corrode.

MOSCOW— Up to 2,000 tons of oil have spilled from a major field in northern Russia after workers struggled to contain the leak for two days, officials said.
The accident happened at the Trebs oil field in the Nenets Autonomous District on Friday following work on an exploratory well. The oil had been gushing for nearly two days before the workers finally capped the well Sunday morning, Emergency Ministry officials said.
